All of our equipment

The Wytheville Lasertag Club has enough equipment to outfit more than 26 people. The picture above is of most of our gear. Below are somewhat detailed descriptions and pictures of individual pieces of equpment.

Also, you can take a look at our Equipment Roster to see the status of all of our gear. Unfotunately, this page is not updated as frequently as it should be.

Basic Pistol with Front and Back Sensor

Basic Pistol Set

This is our basic set. The back sensor is basically mandatory for play. It is way to easy to cheat without it because hiding the front sensor is very easy. It still is not ideal as there are ways that skilled players can position themselves such that they cannot be hit. To remedy this, we are working on convering all vests into head sensors so that it will be harder to not be hit.

The pistol is not one of our best weapons. It has a six shot clip, and it is semi-automatic with a range of between 50 and 100 feet. It also makes a "heartbeat" beep when it is on, which can get annoying in addition to giving your position away. We have equiped these guns with a switch that turns off all noise, but as this is slightly unfair, the use of it during major games is highly regulated.

EX-D Super Laser

EX-D Super Laser

A definite step up from the basic pistol. This gun is fully automatic, and has a 25 shot clip. Unfortunately, it, too, has the annoying beeping. We have modified ours so that they have a fully silent mode, and also have a mode where they only make sound when the trigger is depressed. Although they are supposed to have a range of 250 feet, their range has been decreasing dramatically recently. Now they are little better than the basic pistols, apart from their fully automatic capabilities. (This can most likely be fixed by replacing the diode, but we have not gotten around to that.)

We have three of these weapons.

Special Edition Vests

Special Edition

These are not our favorite vests (though our modifications to them have turned them into our favorite vests). These vests do not have a back sensor, and cannot hit themselves. To accomplish this, the sensor is deactivated while the gun is firing. The downside of this is that the guns can shoot very quickly, and so people can go for some time without being hit. This gets very annoying. We would not buy these again if given the option.

Micromax Blaster (Otherwise known as Noisy Crickets)

Micro Blaster

These small guns are some of the best in our arsenal. With their amplifier on, they have a very long range (we have not bothered to check it recently, however, at our last test it was second only to our V2 gear). Additionally, they are quite small, giving them a great "cool factor." They also are equiped with a silent mode, and a LED that is easy to manually shield which makes them very stealthy. A slightly more dubious destinction is the need to hold down the trigger for two seconds to reload. Nonetheless, these guns are still excellent. Due to our quest not to lose parts, we have glued the amplifier onto the guns (why would you ever want to play without it anyway!). The vests have also been modified with straps to make them similar to more orthodox vests. The slightly unorthodox name comes from a previous player who fell in love with these guns before we obtained any other silent-enabled guns.

Team Force 2000

Team Force 2000

Next to our two V2 guns, these are probably the best store bought guns we have. They are in every way but two similar to the basic set. The two differences are that the gun does not have the "heartbeat," and that the vests have one more siren at the 9 hit mark. Since these guns are new, they have a noticibly longer range than their older counterparts. Additionally, the vests are capible of interfacing with the back sensors.

Team Force 250'

Team Force 250'

The most recent addition to our arsenal. We have modified these guns to be used as head sensors. They accept the Maxi-Blast from the V2 guns, have three blast shields, and have team capabilities. This latter ability is never used because the remainder of the gear is not team-enabled. The fact that they do not have a back sensor is currently fairly well ballanced by the fact that the sensor is worn on the head. These guns are somewhat hard to aim, but are, nonetheless, favored by our most experienced players due the the increased realism that they offer. They also are not particularly affected by the sun; as we have not found them to be ever hit by the sun.

V2 Ultrawide Blaster

V2 Ultrawide Blaster

Until very recently, these were, without question, our best guns. Even now, their range is still fairly comperable to our home-made gear. They have a mode whereby one can swivel the two barrels out and shoot a wider beam. The rate of fire is then limited to one shot every several seconds. This mode is rarely ever used as the guns are generally used as machine guns. They have a range of at least 250 feet, but at this distance they are rather hard to aim. They have a twenty-five shot clip that is fired in fully automatic mode, and are equiped with a silent mode. The fortunate players who get these guns are generally given the option to use this mode. The guns are also equiped with Maxi-Blast.
